Keith served our Honolulu Chapter of CSI in a variety of roles and committees including his Presidency in 2009.


Keith was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated from Kalani High School in 1981 and received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 1987. He completed an exchange study program at the University of Oregon and was a dedicated supporter of the Ducks, Rainbow Warriors and the LA Dodgers throughout his life.

Keith began work first as a student intern with Stimmel Architects. This was followed by positions with Media Five; Kober Hansen Mitchell; the City and County of Honolulu, and Allana, Buick, Bers. His last role was as Project Manager with the Department of Education’s Facilities Development Branch where he worked from 2008 to his passing there on July 25th. Keith also had his own company, KT Design.

Along with fellow UH School of Architecture Alumni Keith founded the Alumni Association for the school, which provides financial and mentoring services for the students. Keith carried leadership roles both within AIA Honolulu and CSI Honolulu where he also served as their President. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Stella Tanaka, sister and brother-in-law, Patti Ann and Aron Inoue, nephew, Brenden Inoue and niece, Camaron Inoue.
