AIA Honolulu is very pleased to announce that one of our state’s most insightful and engaging economists, Paul Brewbaker of TZ Economics, will be joining us via webinar on Thursday, April 30 to share his economic outlook in this ever-changing environment.

In his first COVID-19 presentation specific to the design and building industry, Paul will discuss the effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic on Hawaii’s short- and long-term outlook. He’ll include data characterizing the local and global public health situation, conjecture some near-term consequences of public policy interventions, and importantly, share his views on urban and housing economic issues and his local projections.

Beyond his economic forecast, Paul will speak to the larger consequences of the pandemic on urban density, planning, residential and commercial design. “Similar things have always accompanied cathartic macroeconomic sudden stops,” he says. “The basic idea is that the economic outlook, short- and long-term, inevitably are influenced by dramatic biological, geopolitical, and geophysical events. This one will be no different.”

He also did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, taught at its Madison and Milwaukee campuses, and lectures at the University of Hawaii.
