What is Hawaii’s Architectural Soul? When planning and designing a project what elements and features do you incorporate to capture the “soul” of Hawaii? Is this even possible?

In April’s Membership Meeting, Matt Gilbertson will take us on a journey on several of his recent projects to explain the various contemporary Hawaii vernacular architectural expressions he used in several of his projects, including:

• The new Ku`ono Marketplace in Kahala and Foodland Market;
• A transformed Central Pacific Bank Headquarters in downtown at King and Alakea Streets
• The Girl Scouts of Hawaii’s new Camp Paumalu cabins
• The new Hawaii State Veteran’s Home in Kapolei

Matt will discuss the sustainability strategies, energy-saving techniques, technical design and schedule disruption challenges that he faced and overcame on each of these projects.
