Thank you to everyone for their participation in Hawaii’s first in-person trade show for the construction and design industries in over two years. The PBX21 Planning Committee worked diligently for 12 months to plan a first-class show, navigating around lockdowns, various waves of COVID variants, and meeting room and Expo hall reassignments at the Hawaii Convention Center to continue the tradition of bringing together Hawaii’s construction and design industries.  After rescheduling the event from October 2021 to January 2022 we finally were able to meet in person, thanks to your support.

After our successful all virtual PBX20 event, many exhibitors expressed their preference for an in-person PBX21. With the pandemic still swirling around us, we anticipated a lower than usual attendance. However, we are happy to report that attendance (both exhibitor and attendee) was still substantial with about 1,050 people at the show, many of whom told us it was worthwhile to see each other. Like many other organizations scrambling to reschedule their annual conferences and trade shows this year, and with potential attendees that have health concerns, we were encouraged by the solid support of our exhibitors and sponsors who clearly recognize the importance of supporting Hawaii’s design and construction industries.

The most popular session was the Construction & Design Industries Luncheon. There were over 200 attendees listening to Mayor Blangiardi and DPP Director Dean Uchida’s Update on the DPP. Moderator Glen Kaneshige from Nordic/PCL navigated through 70 questions received from the audience. A big Mahalo to BIA-Hawaii, GCA of Hawaii and AIA Honolulu for co-presenting this first of its kind collaboration. A recording of this session and many others are posted on our website (pbxhawaii.com), for on-demand viewing.

We are already planning PBX22 with another in-person event at the Hawaii Convention Center.  As PBX continues to evolve and grow, we look forward to our continued partnership with companies and organizations like yours to help us continue to serve the design and construction industry here in the islands.  We are very much looking forward to seeing you again in the fall. A new date will be announced soon.

Aloha,
